French Learning Journal 18

 Oct. 24

Bonsoir!

Today I finally proceeded into the next section: Travel. I learned some new words related to travel like a plane, car, train station, and some prepositions. I can not explain it, but I think I am good at this section. But, I still do not how to distinguish masculine words or feminine words. Why is "gare", station in English, feminine words?

Is that the only way French people memorize them?

  2. A basic guideline:

    Feminine noun endings:
The majority of words that end in -e or -ion.
Except words ending in -age, -ege, -é, or -isme (these endings often indicate masculine words).

    Masculine noun endings:
Most words with other endings are masculine.
